Governance

Our Board is responsible for making sure that our activities are carried out to a high standard that keeps on improving.

The Octavia Board is made up of 11 individuals, which includes our Chief Executive and three residents. Each member brings valuable skills and experience from other sectors and organisations to their role.  As a provider of social housing, we are regulated by the Homes and Communities Agency, which assesses our performance once a year.

The Board are also supported by a number of committees and resident groups to ensure our services are consistently improving to meet the needs of the people we help and house.

    What does your job involve?

    • Its a varied job role with many different aspects mainly concerned with the governance of Octavia. It involves liasing with directors and senior staff in maintaiting quality control of all services and finances. Its also made up of regular board and sub-committe meetings to discuss all areas related to managing Octavia and make strategic decisons for its future.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

    • What is exciting and enjoyable for me is the chance as a resident to have an input in Octavia's decision making at board level. This is also a great responsiblity as I am speaking on behalf of the residents and their expectations of their housing association. Its definetly a challenging yet worthwhile role.

How would you describe working for Octavia?

    • Octavia is definetly a great company to work for and is very much in tune with peoples needs. They are always willing to listen to what you have to say. Its also amazing how all the staff are so friendly and willling to help you immediatly.

How has working at Octavia helped you to develop your skills or in your career? Is there any particular training or learning and development you have done that you would like to highlight?

    •  Octavia has been a stepping stone in my career into management. The other board members are from different backgrounds with different expertise which has helped enhance my skills. As for development, I am due to finish a governance programme with the NHF and I hope to gain more expertise with further programmes.
